The hacker responsible for the biggest DeFi hack of 2023, which drained $197 million from Euler Finance, has reportedly started returning stolen Ether.
Approximately 3,000 ETH worth around $5.4 million were returned to Euler Finance's deployer address on March 18 in three separate transactions, according to blockchain investigator PeckShield. The hacker transferred 1,000 ETH per transaction to Euler's deployer account, but the chances of the hacker returning the entire loot remain slim as no further outbound transactions have been recorded at the time of writing.
Euler Finance had announced a $1 million reward for information leading to the hacker's arrest and the retrieval of the stolen funds. The recent return of funds suggests that the hacker may have had a change of heart, but it remains to be seen if they will return the entirety of the stolen funds.
