Game Developer CCP Games Raises $40M Led by a16z

CCP Games, developer of sci-fi spacefaring MMO EVE Online, announced it has raised $40 million led by a16z, with participation from Makers Fund, BITKRAFT and others.

The funds will help CCP Games build a new AAA game utilizing blockchain technology, which is set within the EVE Universe. The game will leverage smart-contract technology to focus on persistence, composability and third-party development to create a new relationship between virtual worlds and players.
