France’s Financial Markets Authority Supports Faster Mandatory Licensing for Crypto Firms

Jan 09,2023,11:15

France’s financial markets authority (AMF) wants to force crypto companies to seek a license if they aren’t already registered in the country, its chair Marie-Anne Barbat Layani said on Monday. "The AMF, like the parliament, calls for an accelerated move to a regime of obligatory licensing for non-registered providers."

A number of prominent companies, including Binance, are currently registered with the AMF, with registration involving checks on the company's governance and compliance with anti-money laundering rules.

Previously, the French Senate proposed an initiative last year that would have forced crypto companies to seek regulatory recognition by Oct. 1, 2023, in compliance with the introduction of a new regulatory regime for the crypto asset market in the European Union.
